ABOUT CORFU

Corfu island has been a popular holiday destination for many years and was one of the first of the Greek islands to open up to tourism.

Each year, it attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world.

Corfu is one of the Ionian Islands, and lies close to the mainland of Albania.  From Roda you can see some stunning views across to its rocky expanse.

Unlike some of the other islands of Greece, it enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate with a high rainfall in Winter which means it’s a very green island.  Wander the lanes through the rich vegetation, olive groves and citrus trees and you’ll know this to be true.

In the centre of the island is Mount Pantokrator, the highest mountain of Corfu, with an altitude of 914 m.  But it’s not all mountainous and you find many plains and rivers weaving their way to the sea.

Even though the island relies on tourism, it still feels like a getaway with unspoiled and remote-feeling villages in abundance.

The capital of the island is called Corfu Town and is also the main port. It was built between two fortresses with architecture that displays Italian and French influences.
